Unannounced audits

ASC requires a portion of the auditor visits to be unannounced for Chain of Custody holders and during harvest on farms to ensure relevant and effective audits.

Chain of Custody

ASC Chain of Custody protocols require all supply chain companies to identify, separate, track and record certified seafood through every stage of the supply chain starting with the farm, to prevent mixing with non-certified products.

Public disclosure

ASC requires public disclosure of any suspension or withdrawal of a Chain of Custody certificate holder.

Innovative tools

ASC offers a developing set of innovative verification (track & trace) tools in place and piloting on physical testing (TEF), the transmission of Key Data Elements (KDE) and land-use monitoring via satellite imagery and GIS. This ensures that the ASC labelled seafood is coming from ASC certified farms.

Our tools

Through a suite of new tools and projects, using the latest technology and adapting successful methods from other sectors, ASC is championing the most robust traceability and assurance in the certified seafood sector.

With every innovation offering you further protection, you can be reassured that if a product carries the ASC label, it is from an ASC certified farm or farms.

ASC Supplier Monitoring Tool

We are using a new web-based tool to collect certified product antibiotic test result data from a range of sources, including certificate holders, government databases and our own sampling.

ASC Key Data Elements (KDE)

The project involves using and/or developing software to capture and convey key data elements (KDEs) from certified farm origin throughout the supply chain to end consumers.

ASC Product Authentication Testing (TEF)

ASC is adapting a proven provenance technique from other food industries in its Trace Element Fingerprinting (TEF) project.

Variance Request processes

ASC has two processes for Variance Requsts – VRs to the ASC standards and VRs to the Certification and Accreditation Requirements (CAR).
