Species Extension Project: Other Species

In 2021, the ASC Board identified and approved several species to be added to the ASC programme. While some species have received approval, they have not yet been evaluated for compliance with ASC requirements. This evaluation is necessary for their inclusion in the Scope Extension Project and eventually in the ASC Farm Standard.

Here is the list of species:

  • Percoidea superfamily

This list will be updated whenever new species receive approval for inclusion. Although these species are not currently a priority for the Scope Extension Project, they are on the waiting list to eventually be added to the Farm Standard. Prioritization depends on the results of the Species Scope Extension Process.

Including additional species in the ASC Farm Standard requires sufficient scientific data and producer input for developing the white paper and setting species-specific metrics according to the Metrics Methodology. Therefore, ASC will evaluate this project once enough satisfactory supplementary information has been collected and after integrating other priority species into the ASC Farm Standard.

We invite stakeholders involved in the aquaculture sector of the aforementioned species to provide their input through the Data Submission Portal. Stakeholders will be notified about the next steps of this project through official ASC channels.
