ASC Co-organising Sustainability Seminar at North Atlantic Seafood Forum

June 1, 2022

As we recognise the importance to accelerate sustainable practices above and under water to create positive change at scale, ASC in collaboration with Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) will host a Sustainability Seminar as part of the North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) programme.

On Thursday 23 June and Day 3 of the NASF conference, the Sustainability Seminar will offer a series of presentations and discussions on the theme of ‘The power of data” and ‘Marketing sustainable seafood online’.

To make this accessible to ASC partners, we are able to provide discounted online delegate passes – for only 150 EUR for all three days.

The power of data

The lack of good and timely data has been identified as a key limitation to increase sustainable production of seafood. Better decisions on everything from managing the oceans to managing a farm, is dependent on reliable data that is efficiently collected, using new technology as well as collaborative efforts.

In the first session, we will take a closer look at the power of data and how it can drive sustainable change in the seafood sector. We will consider what is needed to fully release the power of data, and how data can help with tackling the latest sustainability challenges.

The ‘Power of data’ session will feature:

  • How can a data sharing economy help us strengthen the relationship between research, industry, and governance?

Speaker: Elisabeth Haugsbø, Head of Data at HUB Ocean

  • The Importance of data for investment decisions

Speaker: Mike Velings, Co-Founder, Managing partner at Aqua-Spark

  • WWF Basket Blueprint for Action, driving and measuring change

Speaker: Clarus Chu, Senior Policy Advisor (Food Production) at WWF-UK

  • The implications of the WWF basket on the seafood supply chain

Speaker: Cameron Moffat, Sustainability Manager at Young’s Seafood

  • The need to collaborate on data sharing

Speaker: Paul Bullock, Aquaculture Analyst at Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP).

The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion that will include all speakers and with plenty of time for Questions and Answers from the audience.

Marketing Sustainable Seafood Online

The rise of e-commerce globally, not least due to the pandemic, bears a huge potential of giving consumers additional insights into the way their seafood products are fished or farmed. In this session, we will consider how businesses can make use of a growing number of conscious consumers and touch both their hearts as well as their heads.

The ‘Marketing sustainable seafood online’ session will include:

  • How you catch consumers emotionally on sustainable seafood with Neuroscience.

Speaker: Marc Heimeier, Decode (virtual presentation)

  • Trends within E-commerce related to seafood and the Chinese consumers’ perception on sustainability

Speaker: Andreas Thorud, Director China at Norwegian Seafood Council

  • Marketing of sustainable seafood online from a retailer perspective

Session led by JD.com, Chinese largest retailer

  • Marketing sustainable seafood, the psychology and value of a brand

Speaker: Jennifer Bushman, Chief Marketing Officer at (Kvaroy Arctic) & Blue Foods Advocate

  • How to use digital traceability for building consumer trust

Speaker: Julius Palm, Leader Strategy and Marketing at Followfood

Again, presentations will be followed by a panel discussion with all speakers to allow for deeper reflections on the topic as well as time for Questions and Answers.
