Nova Austral Achieves ASC Certification
February 18, 2016
Chilean salmon producer Nova Austral has achieved Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification.
This certification is the first for a Nova Austral farm. The company raises salmon in the remote Magellan and Antarctic Region of Chile and has plans to greatly increase the number of its farms with ASC Salmon Certification over the course of the coming year.
An additional site has already entered assessment and more sites are soon to follow as Nova Austral seeks to convert over 50% of its harvest to ASC certified salmon by the end of 2016.
Nicos Nicolaides, Nova Austral CEO said, “Our goal is to produce the purest salmon in the world. We are very focused on being able to supply our clients in the future with ASC certified fish continuously throughout the year, and our aim is to be the first salmon farmer in Chile to accomplish this.”
Nova Austral is owned by Altor Fund III and Bain Capital. The company’s entire operations are located in Chile’s Region XII, over 2,500 km from Santiago, the country’s capital city.
