Proposed Resource Rent Tax Will Penalise Sustainable and Responsible Aquaculture in Norway
February 5, 2025
In a letter from ASC CEO Chris Ninnes to the Norwegian Ministry of Finance regarding the proposed tax scheme for aquaculture, Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is demonstrating its support for producers who have committed to responsible farming by choosing to operate in line with ASC’s robust standards.
The proposal states that ASC certified fish will be subject to an additional fee of 2 NOK per kg, while other certification schemes are exempt. More than 40% of salmon farms in Norway are ASC certified and would be negatively impacted by this proposal.
