First ASC Certified Rainbow Trout Oil Launched in Scandinavia
June 19, 2019
Health savvy Scandinavians will now be able to purchase the world’s first fish oil made from ASC certified rainbow trout. The product is already being sold in Sweden under the trademark NORDBO – and is available in health food stores.
Sold by Danish company Proby Ingredients (part of the Danforel group), the product has achieved ASC certification throughout its entire supply chain meaning consumers can rest assured it meets ASC’s strict standards for environmentally and socially responsible production.
“We are delighted that customers in Scandinavia now have the opportunity to buy ASC certified rainbow trout oil,” said Inger Melander, ASC Commercial Marketing Manager for Northern Europe. Danforel have worked tirelessly to ensure their rainbow trout oil achieves the ASC’s rigorous environmental and social standards. This allows shoppers the confidence that their purchase is rewarding responsible fish farming.”
“It is extremely exciting to be able to sell the world’s first fish oil made from Danish ASC certified rainbow trout,” said Erik Hansen, Director of Danforel. “It has been extremely important to us that we produce an oil that is responsibly sourced and we had no doubt that ASC was the standard we wanted to meet.”
The fish from which the oil is extracted are transported live from trout farms located a maximum of 50 km from the factory in Grindsted, Jutland. First the fillets of the fish are cut, then the oil is extracted from the remaining parts of the fish, ensuring the whole fish is used with no waste. This happens in a single process to maintain freshness.
The ASC certified rainbow trout oil is available at specialist stores including Hälsokraft and Life, the Nordic region’s largest health food chain. The rainbow trout oil will be sold in Denmark and Finland under the ECOLOMEGA trademark and is already available in Sweden, under the NORDBO brandname, which is owned by Inekogruppen AB. The company is seeking to supply other EU countries soon. For more information go to www.wearenordbo.se.
